Modern technology has made navigation easier and more affordable. Google is working continuously to make more locations available and update available ones. Sharing your location can help you and your friends arrive at the same location effortlessly. Additionally, it facilitates a sense of security by letting loved ones stay informed during journeys or outdoor activities.
Open Google Maps on your device and allow it to access your location. Then, you will see your current position in the center of the screen. Tap on your icon and tap Share Location or create a map pin by tapping and holding anywhere on the map.
After creating your custom pin, tap on it to access the option to share it with your friends.
The only app you need is Google Maps, a free service provided by the tech giant.
If you use Android, it is very likely your device came with Google Services installed, Google Maps included. If not, visit your device's app store to install it yourself. You don't need to sign in with your Google account to use the app. Take note that not signing in to an account will strip away some of the app's features. After installing your app, you should give it access to your device's location. Follow the prompts to do so.
After giving the app's permission to check your location, the app will go to your location and you will be able to see where you are. if not, check the lower right side of the app's screen, where a button with a circle with four pointy sides is. When clicking said button, the app will center its view on your current location.
One tap on the blue icon representing your location will bring up a menu at the bottom of the screen. Here you can directly tap the Select Location button, which allows you to share your location with your contacts for a limited time. Google Maps offers real-time location sharing, allowing others to track your movement as you navigate. This is especially helpful for coordination during travel or meetups.
Alternatively, you can drop a pin near you by tapping and holding on the screen and then tap on it. A menu will pop up from the bottom of the screen with various options. Here you can click on the Share icon and select your preferred application to share your location. You can send your location via text, Viber, iMessage, or copy it to the clipboard and paste it into whichever app you desire.
Creating a pin anywhere on the map will render you able to use the same technique described above to share that location with your friends. Just be careful about sharing your location as it can lead to major security risks. Make sure you trust the recipients of your location.
