Google aims to change the way we search
I did not know what to think about this new implementation for the search page of Google Search for desktop, so I went to Twitter and read some comments to get an idea on how it impacts others.
As with most times when a change occurs with a popular app, opinions are somewhat split, and voices expressing negative thoughts are the loudest. No surprise there when it comes to Twitter.
Some were sad because they used to bookmark google results, which I do not get. That is because I have never saved a google search results page for myself or shared it with someone else.
Other people came out with different reasons why this is bad for ranking. I do not think that is the case, but some were making an excellent point about how this would affect google advertisers. I agree that making more results easily available on the first page could do that but I don't believe this is what Google intends to do.
There were not all bad reactions, with some people enjoying the idea. A user thought that all websites find themselves on the first page now. It cracked me up a little because it's somewhat true.
Below is the official tweet from Google:
In my experience, some of my searches are at least half of the page ads followed by relevant results. I also recall very few times when I switch to the second page.
By adding dynamic content from what was supposed to be the following page, many lower-ranked websites could surface. That's good for those websites and you because you'll get more results.
So is it good or bad?
My vote is for it as a good thing. I am well past avoiding change. I love it now.
